Dr. Jutta Buschbom is an evolutionary biologist with a focus on statistical inference and forecasting from genetic data. She is interested in questions about the usefulness and reliability of inferred evolutionary models and their predictive conclusions.
The protection of biodiversity from across the Tree of Life lies at the heart of her work. Thereby, her interests center around long-lived, widely and continuously distributed non-model organisms with large distribution ranges (among them are, for example, many forest trees, marine organisms, fungi and many more). These characteristics present difficult challenges for statistical approaches, for which new and often increasingly complex methods are continuously developed.
Dr. Buschbom’s primary goal is to develop sophisticated statistical approaches into applied conservation genetic tools that are robust and effective under real-world operating conditions.
